So after getting sick of paying for a waffle at the diner i decided to get this waffle iron. I could not be happier. I could not believe how many negative reviews there were. So after not having ever done a review before now, I decided to explain it as simple as can be.....

1) ALTHOUGH ITS A NON STICK SURFACE, GREASE THE PAN. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A NON STICK SURFACE THAT IS TRULY NON STICK WITH ANYTHING!!!!! POTS, PANS, or COOKING DEVICES. I use a Misto sprayer filled with olive oil that I use for everything that I cook because store bought non stick sprays contain propellants and other chemicals/poisons that I am trying to avoid

2) Use a measuring cup for the batter!!!! I know it sounds simple but I guess people lack common sense. The instructions it comes with even says USE HALF A CUP OF BATTER!!!!!! Its extremely rare that the batter overflows when I do this. just keep in mind different batter mixes will have different ingredients and therefore Consistent difference.

I received this waffle iron for Christmas, as I wanted to make a bigger variety of waffles, and healthier waffles than the brand name ones. I simply use a prepackaged whole grain waffle mix, following the instructions, and then add grated veggies or blueberries. It does take a large amount of mix (about 1 1/2 cups) for each set of 4 waffles, but the waffles are SO much more substantial than the ones in the grocery store freezer! I put the setting on "1" to cook, then cool and freeze the waffles and they are ready for my kids to eat in the morning. My kids love them and ask for the "new waffles" all the time.

I recommend that you spray the iron, both top and bottom, each time with a little cooking spray. No, it's not strictly necessary, but it just makes getting the cooked waffles out so much easier! I also recommend making the batter a little thinner, so it's easy to spread out over the bottom of the iron when you pour it in.

I am NOT a great cook, but This cake is easy to use steel in the last two months now, I have no problem with that process.

The plants often grow together in large numbers to form dense forests, usually composed of a single kelp species. A giant kelp plant can live up to six years. The plant is continuously pushing up new fronds to the surface, while the older fronds break off. Reaching lengths of more than 100 feet / 30 meters, it is the largest marine algae.

The rainforest of the ocean
The kelp forest has a high production and very high biological diversity. Kelp forests are among the most productive and species-rich ecosystems in the world. Kelp plants create a structural complexity throughout the water column that provides habitat for many kinds of fish, invertebrates, and other algae. This makes the kelp forest an amazing place to scuba dive. If coral reefs are said to be the cities of the ocean, the kelp forests have to be the rain forest of the ocean. In the shadows within the kelp forest hundreds of species of fishes and invertebrates ply their trades. The kelp forest also offers a great place to grow offspring. Many vulnerable larvae of fish are spending their formative months in the kelp forest instead of having to face the dangers of the open ocean. Just as in the rain forest on land, the kelp forest houses different species at different levels. While some fish thrive under the canopy, other animals make their lives further down in the aquatic forest. Various predatory snails and gaily coloured nudibranchs graze on the stem and the kelp leaves. Within the labyrinth of the kelp forest many shrimp, crabs, sea stars and anemones also find their food and housing. Scientists have counted up to 100.000 life forms on a single kelp.

Kelp harvesting
Kelp harvesting takes place in several countries around the world. The harvesting of kelp for manufacture of food additives and agrochemical products is a significant business in Asia, Europe and parts of North America. Giant kelp has been harvested off the southern California coast for more than 90 years. In the 1970's, yearly harvests of more than 170,000 tons supported a California kelp industry worth $40 million. Also Norway is harvesting kelp on a large-scale base. 170,000 tons are harvested on the Norwegian west-coast every year. Kelp harvesting is undertaken by tug-sized custom-built vessels with open holds the size of large caravans. Kelp harvesting is managed on a rotational basis, ensuring that each area is harvested only once every 4 years to allow regrowth of the plants. The kelp dredge itself resembles a huge, iron garden rake, 3m wide and with elongated spiked teeth, which is carried along the sea bed on raised skis. The weight of the dredge as it is pulled forward rips dozens of kelp plants from the rock, holdfast and all, which are then caught between the teeth. At the end of a harvesting run, the dredge may have been drawn 50-250m along the sea bed, and have over a tonne of plants hanging in a compact mass from its teeth. The process at the factory begins with the harvested seaweed being thoroughly washed in sea-water to remove sand, silt, shells and small stones. Rotary drum dryers are used to dry the seaweed, to be processed into seaweed meal.

Resource management
Kelp harvesting is not without criticism. There has been and is in progress several studies to reveal the impact of commercial harvesting. Kelp harvesting impacts on invertebrate, sea bird and other marine mammal populations has not been satisfactorily investigated. Invertebrates, of all the groups of species that rely on kelp forests for their habitat, may be the most affected by kelp harvesting. In Norway the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) started a long term project in 2003 to investigate the effect of kelp harvesting. According to IMR only about 0,3 % of Norway's kelp are harvested, but up to 40 % are eaten by sea urchins. Nevertheless, disappearing kelp forests may contribute to the depletion of fish stocks, as the kelp forest is a nursery for juvenile fish, and also major feeding grounds for blue water species. Less fish also could mean fewer sea birds. It will take some time before this study and others around the world can give satisfactory answer on weather commercial kelp harvesting is sustainable or not.

I was all set to come here and trash this waffle maker after the first time I used it-- the waffles stuck to both sides and didn't stay together, the batter dripped over the edges and got EVERYWHERE, it took so long to cool down and I couldn't get it to stay together to stand up on its end to store...

Well, the first two problems were really my fault. I had read the recipe, but I put in less oil than it called for because I figured, "Who needs all that oil?" The second time, I put in the right amount of oil and the waffles came out perfectly, with no sticking. I also had to learn how much batter to use each time; it's less than it appears. And ignore the instructions that tell you to spread out the batter on the machine; that is unneccessary and can make the waffles not stick together.

So now that I've learned how to use it properly, the machine makes great waffles, consistently browned just right on both sides, quickly. There are three improvements I'd like to see made:

-An audible sound in addition to the green light. I'm usually running around doing other things while the waffles cook; it would be nice to have a "ding" go off instead of having to keep peeking over to see if the light turned green.

-A safety lock. I have a daughter, and it makes me nervous that she could get curious and open the lid while it's cooking or before the machine cools down. (Of course I watch her carefully, but kids move fast!) It should be easy-- even my curling iron has a simple little lock position.

-A better way of closing the machine to store it. The manual claims that it locks closed to store, but unless I'm a total idiot, it does not. It tenuously closes and can easily slide back open. So the safety lock I'm proposing could double as a "stay closed" lock!

But the main thing, of course, is that it does make great waffles with little effort.

This is a good waffle maker. It's still new so we'll see how long it holds up. But as for making waffles it did a good job. You have to watch the consistency of your batter. If it is too runny then the waffles will burn in the ridges and be soggy in the middle. You want a fairly thick batter. I had to add a little flour to my batter to make it thicker, then they came out great.
